S7, Ep. 01 Hospitality: The Spiritual Practice of Welcoming Others as Christ Welcomes Us
How can hospitality be something we do as a spiritual practice? In this episode, we’re introducing a new series expanding hospitality beyond entertaining or having a “gift” for hosting. We talk about hospitality as creating a safe, open space where friends or strangers can experience the welcoming spirit of Christ, drawing on definitions and quotes from Adele Calhoun’s Spiritual Disciplines Handbook, including the idea of offering the welcome of Jesus to any and all. We explore how hospitality can fit different temperaments and settings—homes, coffee conversations, churches, professional contexts, and everyday life—emphasizing presence, safety, and freedom from ego or agenda. We share our own personal experiences of receiving hospitality and invite you to notice where you’ve experienced it as well.
